Thank you to our nesting box sponsors

The seasons have turned again and the nesting boxes in Bicknor Wood have been cleaned and repaired, ready for their new tenants.

Some of them needed replacement after damage by Green Woodpeckers and Squirrels, while others have been repositioned to make them a more attractive proposition.

Defences are not intended to be impervious. Even a metal plate can't keep a determined squirrel at bay forever.

It is hoped that the protection will give the smaller birds a chance to fend off attackers until their brood are old enough to fledge.

The boxes are available for sponsorship to raise funds to keep Bicknor Wood safe, clean and open. If you are already a sponsor, thank you very much for supporting your community woodland. If you would like to sponsor a box, follow this link for details.

Sponsors from previous years have had success with Blue Tits, Great Tits and Nuthatches. Last season 16 of the boxes showed signs of nesting activity

Other boxes with open fronts have attracted Robins and Wrens.

The open-fronted boxes are not usually put forward for sponsorship as the Wrens and Robins prefer discrete, obscured placement of their boxes.
